What Is the Inductive Method?
Unlike deductive study (which starts from a doctrine and looks for proof), the inductive method starts from the text itself and lets doctrine emerge naturally.
Step 1: Observe
Read the passage several times. Ask questions: Who? What? When? Where? Why? How? Mark key words, repetitions, contrasts, and lists.
Step 2: Interpret
Now that you have observed well, ask: What does this mean? Use literary, historical, and cultural context. Compare with other biblical passages.
Step 3: Apply
What difference should this text make in my life today? Application is the fruit of good study.
